Resale Value
Most jewellery shops will not tell you what your piece is worth second-hand. Here is our honest answer.
The uncomfortable truth about resale
Almost all jewellery is worth substantially less the moment you leave the shop. The price you paid included craftsmanship, design, setting, packaging and a margin — none of which a buyer of second-hand goods pays for. This is true of diamonds, and it is true of us.
Anyone telling you jewellery is a reliable investment is selling something.
What holds value, and what does not
Metal holds value. Silver has a market price. Your piece contains a measurable weight of it, and that weight is worth roughly what silver is worth on the day, minus refining.
Fine natural stones hold value if they are genuinely fine — good colour, good size, minimal treatment, documented. An ordinary heated sapphire does not.
Moissanite and lab-grown stones do not hold resale value. They can be manufactured to order, so there is no scarcity to support a second-hand price. We would rather say this plainly than let you find out later.
Craftsmanship does not resell. The hours at the bench are worth a great deal to you and nothing to a scrap buyer.
So why buy moissanite?
Because you are buying something to wear, not an asset. A 2-carat moissanite ring costs a fraction of the diamond equivalent, looks extraordinary, and is hard enough to wear daily for decades. If you had bought the diamond you would also have lost money on resale — just a far larger sum.
The honest framing is not “this is an investment”. It is “this costs less and you enjoy it just as much”.
Our buy-back
We buy back any piece we made, at any time. What we offer reflects:
- Silver weight at the current market rate
- The stone, assessed honestly — natural stones carry value, moissanite and lab-grown carry little
- Condition, and what it would cost us to restore it
It will be less than you paid. We will explain exactly how we arrived at the number, and you are free to walk away.
The better use of the buy-back
Most people use it as trade-in rather than cash-out — putting an old piece towards a new one. You get more value that way, because we are crediting you against a sale rather than buying scrap.
Message us for a valuation. No obligation, and we will not pressure you.
