Sustainability

Made to order, on purpose

The single biggest waste in jewellery is unsold stock: pieces made speculatively, never bought, eventually melted or discounted into nothing. We make after you order. It is slower for you and it means almost nothing we make goes unworn.

Silver

Silver is one of the most recycled materials in the trade. Our bench scrap — filings, offcuts, failed castings — is collected and refined back into usable metal rather than thrown away. Silver loses nothing in recycling; it is the same metal afterwards.

Lab-grown and moissanite

Lab-grown stones and moissanite avoid mining entirely. They are not automatically “green” — growing them takes considerable energy — but they sidestep the land disturbance and the labour questions that come with mined stones. We are honest about that trade-off rather than pretending it does not exist.

Natural stones

We buy natural stones through dealers we have worked with for years. We will tell you what we know about a stone's origin, and we will tell you when we do not know. Anyone claiming a complete, verified chain of custody for every coloured stone in this market is overstating it.

Repair before replacement

Free lifetime replating, free repairs on manufacturing faults, and resizing rather than remaking. A piece that gets serviced for thirty years is worth more, environmentally, than any claim on a packaging insert.

Buy-back

We buy back any piece we made, at any time. It goes back into the workshop rather than into a drawer or a bin.

What we are not claiming

We are a small workshop. We are not carbon neutral, we do not have third-party certification, and we are not going to buy an offset and call ourselves sustainable. What we can tell you is how we make things and where our materials come from.
